Letter to the Ephesians 4:1-6
The apostle Paul wrote the believers in Ephesus while he is in prison because of the Good News received from Christ. He knows this community, since he already had the opportunity to meet during his third missionary journey in Asia Minor. And when he arrived, there was an uproar among the proclaimers of the Gospel and craftsmen fashioning statues of the temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Artemis, temple regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the world.
This short reminder and put this in perspective I think are important for the rest of reflection.
In today's text, Paul emphasizes the unity of faith. Have faith, practice, implies a whole way of living worthy of this new faith to the Ephesians: I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the vocation that was sent to you in all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, you strive to maintain unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace . I find that Paul sets the bar high! Because, believe it or not, in church or in everyday life, in our relationships with our loved ones, colleagues or strangers, it is not always easy to be humble and gentle. It happens to me, but probably you too, out of my hinges!
I think the message of Paul is not an invitation to fall in sentimentality, in a kind of behavior "everyone is good, everyone is nice!" The central message of this paper is that unity in the Spirit and the oneness of God are obvious, the pillars of faith that can not be questioned. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism and one God and Father of all, which is above all and through all and in all.
new vocation to which the believers in Ephesus were called is that of being, these pagans, non-Jews, members of Christ's body, that body which will soon take the name of the Church. Thus, being members of the body of Jesus Christ means to reject all other gods, all idols that have been theirs before. And this is the reminder of the tumult among the craftsmen who fashioned replicas of the temple of Artemis and Paul is important. If we believe in God, one Lord, one God and Father of all (Paul stresses here), we must therefore distract us from the idols of our world and they are numerous, these images made by human hands. Consider for example the money that rules the world financial crisis and that is our society Diving in panic! The desire to win still more, the fear of running out. The social and professional success: acquiring prestige and consideration of others, be recognized, have a certain lifestyle, owning property.
My purpose is not to disparage all that and pretend that it is unhealthy to have a certain comfort. No! What I want to highlight, echoing what Paul is the place we give to these conveniences in our lives. Are these elements become so indispensable that we tend to deify or are they the means to live?
For Paul, just as Christ has said before, he can not serve two masters at once. God is the only master who deserves to be served and followed by the mediator that he has sent into the world, Jesus Christ our Lord. This God is so rich fullness that He is, as Paul says: above all, and through all and in all . It fills us with his blessings beyond our expectations and gives us his grace without us by our deeds deserve.
Obviously we're all different, each with its own personality, its strengths and weaknesses. We all own a life that is ours. But believers in one God, we are united to Him and each other by the Holy Spirit. This is not a spirit of rivalry or jealousy, but a spirit of unity and union. In the first letter that Paul addressed the Corinthians, he speaks the body: Thus, the body is not a single member, but it consists of several members ... You are the body of Christ, and you are its members, each for his share.
Being members of the body of Christ is to share one faith, one hope, one baptism, though in fact they can take slightly different forms. Our churches have a heart to live their faith in the unity but not uniformity. It is not erase our peculiarities, to deny us our origins or blend into a sort of "standard religion", but to live together in unity of body, to share together the faith and hope we place in the God of heaven while retaining what makes our own identity. We grow from it!
Before concluding, I would make a nod to John Calvin, the French reformer this year we celebrate the 500th anniversary of his birth. Calvin devotes considerable space to the Spirit. For him, faith is given to us by the Holy Spirit. The latter uses faith as the glue that binds us to Christ. It is also the Spirit, the third form Trinity, which gives us the assurance of being saved not by our own actions, but by the unmerited grace of God alone. But I'll stop here because this topic deserves its own long hours of debate.
Returning to what the apostle to the Gentiles, who has had the vocation to proclaim the Gospel to the Gentiles. He exhorts us to live unity in everyday life, we stand to each other, respecting us as we are, each a full member of the body of our Lord Jesus Christ. It also reminds us that it is through peace that we live this unity bestowed by the Spirit. It is not easy, it is not innate. It's a challenge every day! But if we place our trust and hope in the One God and Father of all, recognizing him as the sole master worthy of being served and followed, then we may be living members of the body of our Lord Jesus Christ, members audacious ready to live a life worthy of the vocation that has been addressed.

Between Heaven and Earth: Ascension
Reading: Acts 1.1-12
The earth and sky. Heaven and earth
The story of the Ascension of Christ echoes that of the birth of Jesus. At Christmas, the sky that reaches the earth. God comes to live on high ground from below. This God of love embodied in people.
At Ascension, it is the earth that rises a little closer to heaven. Jesus, our brother, human among humans, that is risen again, who has conquered death, returns to the sky, drawing our gaze upward. At Easter, at the foot of the Cross, we were in sorrow, looking down, disillusioned and now Jesus exhorts us to look up at the sky.
Christ is the image of the tree. It is deeply rooted in the earth, this earth created by God and he goes to heaven. It encourages us to be real humans, with feet on the ground, aware of our weaknesses and our limitations, but with the head in the stars, ready to follow the call of the master.
But unlike the tree, we must not stand still, ineradicable. We must not stay in the woods! The disciples who were amazed by this show, who allowed themselves to wear, too, to follow Christ, the angels come to remind them they are from below the earth. The Son has promised that it is low they receive the Spirit from above. That this work will continue on the earth, by themselves, with help from heaven.
God in whom we believe, is near. It falls to us. It is not to be majestic, seated on a throne somewhere, light years ahead of our concerns, our doubts and our fears.
It is he who brings heaven to earth. He is living heaven on earth. And he has given us a mediator in the person of Jesus Christ.
Christ is the bridge between Heaven, God and the earth, us. He is the one who came and who is returning to the Father, having given his education, after United announced an imminent, after healing the sick, having been the light in the darkness of death.
Jesus is the only face of God that we could contemplate, it is the only body of God that some have been touched.
Today, the Master goes to heaven to join him who sent him. It also gives a promise to the disciples. No, they will not stay alone, helpless, left to themselves. The Spirit will take from them, will be crowds of witnesses praising God to the ends of the world! The disciples will also find ways to continue this work to continue evangelization; to ensure that heaven and earth are no longer separated. The God of the top continues to inhabit the earth from below.
The story of the Ascension is short. It seems very thin compared to accounts of the Passion and Resurrection. While occupying the first several chapters of the Gospels, Ascension has only a few lines and especially a few words: Jesus ascended to heaven, while everyone watched, and then a cloud hid their eyes.
This story has mostly a function of link between Easter, the resurrection, and Pentecost, the Spirit transforms the crowds. The cloud (or cloud) hid in the master eyes of the spectators, like a veil over their questions, our questions. When comes the end, the Kingdom? What now? How to proceed?
Now it is our men and women of the land, we turn to proclaim the omnipotence of God, to tell the world that Jesus Christ was resurrected and reign, sitting to the right of his Father in heaven.
Heaven and earth. The earth and sky. With God all things are upset. He was believed unattainable becomes visible. The sky has just put his feet on the ground.
Land can finger the sky. There is neither high nor low God is everywhere! This
morning, remind us that through Jesus Christ, the God of heaven dwelt among humanity. Through Jesus Christ, the earth has seen approaching the sky. Through Jesus Christ we can walk down to earth and head up into the stars.
Remember also that we are those whom God has chosen for the feet, hands and lips of Jesus, even today. And that of Heaven, where he reigns, he gives us the strength to continue the work that has been his own: to live heaven on earth. By our words, through our actions, by our presence, we will then, with the forces given by the Lord in this feat that science still fails to perform: to enter heaven in the earth!

Christ is the image of the tree. It is deeply rooted in the earth, this earth created by God and he goes to heaven. It encourages us to be real humans, with feet on the ground, aware of our weaknesses and our limitations, but with the head in the stars, ready to follow the call of the master.
But unlike the tree, we must not stand still, ineradicable. We must not stay in the woods! The disciples who were amazed by this show, who allowed themselves to wear, too, to follow Christ, the angels come to remind them they are from below the earth. The Son has promised that it is low they receive the Spirit from above. That this work will continue on the earth, by themselves, with help from heaven.
God in whom we believe, is near. It falls to us. It is not to be majestic, seated on a throne somewhere, light years ahead of our concerns, our doubts and our fears.
It is he who brings heaven to earth. He is living heaven on earth. And he has given us a mediator in the person of Jesus Christ.

The story of the Ascension of Christ echoes that of the birth of Jesus. At Christmas, the sky that reaches the earth. God comes to live on high ground from below. This God of love embodied in people.
At Ascension, it is the earth that rises a little closer to heaven. Jesus, our brother, human among humans, that is risen again, who has conquered death, returns to the sky, drawing our gaze upward. At Easter, at the foot of the Cross, we were in sorrow, looking down, disillusioned and now Jesus exhorts us to look up at the sky.

Mark 10.17-31: the encounter of Jesus and the rich man
Here is the story of an encounter between two men who are total opposites: Jesus and a man rich. The first is poor and has no house to rest. The second has everything and more: he had great possessions "says the text. Jesus knows the way to eternal life and the rich seeking. And as so often in the Gospels, this meeting will emerge a lesson for the disciples and for us, because that Mark, like Matthew and Luke, has seen fit to benefit its readers.
What is known about the rich man? He saw Jesus as a teacher, he called a good master. Jesus said that only God is good. Meeting of two understandings. He knows and observes the law of Moses. It has great assets, but it lacks something, one thing, "said Jesus. To win this something, he must get rid of everything else, its wealth, making benefit the poor. The response of Jesus sad, because he understands that what he considered "good", perhaps as a sign of God's kindness was not enough to enter the Kingdom.
Jesus, once again, reminds us that we can not serve two masters at once, especially not the money and God. Does this mean that we should he sell everything, give everything, debt and impoverishment to please God? No. This is about priority and confidence. If, as the rich man, it trusts in his riches, which is attached, you can not imagine abandoning them to follow Christ, then we made a bad investment priorities. If the Word of God is our wealth, if his teaching is the treasure that we cherish, then we've done is an investment which we earn interest.
With God, there is no half-measure. You can not love a little, serve a little, a little honor. It's all or nothing! What Jesus told the rich man is: either you sell everything and you follow me, or you keep your property and you give up to follow me!
In this time of financial crisis that upsets the values of our world, how many speculators and investors have they had, they too lose what they had hoped? For some, they even lost everything, at their expense! Have they won something more valuable? Not so sure!
God is the one who gave his all until his own Son, died for us on the Cross. The Lord did not hesitate, he did not say "Yes, but ..." In Jesus, all our sins were forgiven, once and for all. God is not a cold computer, a merchant engaged in calculations of grocers. God loves the multiplication of forgiveness and love and not the addition of fault and guilt.
If God one day, gave everything, how much more so should we, too, give it all, without counting. Because love, it can not be bought. It is a wealth divides, which sharing, without ever disappearing. Forgiveness is also an asset that is growing and that brings big ....
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom. Harsh words from the Messiah. This is the impossible! But at the same time, Jesus reminds us, nothing is impossible with God. Him, he can pass a camel through the eye of a needle!
The disciples, too, have given up everything to follow him who made them fishers of men. Waive his personal comfort, professional, daring to challenge and take bold decisions, turning a page of book life, do not look back, but still ahead, this is what Jesus calls us. Even taken by doubt, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus did not seek to evade, he fulfilled the will of the Father ... to the end.
We also moments of our lives, we may be forced to abandon certainties, securities, insurance is certain to launch us into new challenges, to follow the path that we had drawn. Have we regretted our choice? And if it all over again ...?
With God there is no doubt. The God of life
Genesis 22.1-14: Ligation of Isaac
The story of the attempted sacrifice of Isaac by his father Abraham had no doubt made the sensational headlines, if they had existed. If we read this text as a historical event, like the film narrated by an outside observer, while there are many disturbing elements, questioning: who is this God promised Abraham descendants so numerous that it could not be counted ( Gen. 16.10 ), and claiming that only son in sacrifice? Abraham obeyed, without warning his pain, without revolt, without even attempting to "negotiate". And Sarah, the mother, where was she? Is largely absent from this narrative. It seems obvious that parents would have been horrified by such remarks, even from God.
History Continues: Isaac asks his father where the lamb for the sacrifice. His father replied: "My son, God will provide himself ..." ( Gen. 8.22) In other words, he replied: Shut up and walk! Happens when Abraham tied his only son and it does not struggle, he does not fight, he does not try to escape ... And finally, as in fairy tales, at the supreme moment, at the height of suspense, a angel angel descends from heaven and stopped Abraham in his gesture. And, like magic, there is a ram that nobody noticed or heard before, which will serve as a holocaust.
You see, trying to reconstruct this story, it is plagued by inconsistencies, because the meaning of the text is not to find in an accurate description of what actually happened, but in an allegory.
In this story, tragic at first glance, there is one constant: the word of God. The word of God addressed to men. Yahweh, the God of Abraham, stoops to speak to his servant, and it responds, it starts listening. It is also through the speech, not by the gesture, the angel stops the father's arms about to sacrifice his son. So what else God is at the heart of humanity by a word that starts, calling to leave his certainty and comfort. to endanger. Presence is manifested through the word addressed to men.
Contrary to the gods of neighboring peoples, Yahweh is not a God who demands blood, which does not delight in fresh meat. He is the God of life is the source of life. God, our God is a God of life! It is he who, by his word, our everyday lives and joined us, also and especially in the darkest moments of our existence. God put Abraham to the test not so much to play with his faith, but to prove that He, the Lord his God was with him and that he had the power to fulfill his promises, that the promised seed would not annihilated in the first generation. But, putting all his trust in this God, Abraham had a choice of life, source of life.
In conclusion, ligation of Isaac, because there was no human sacrifice, shows us how God is tied to the lives of his children, how it provides for our failings, to Our empty. As Abraham heard the voice of the angel and kept his arm raised, we too have to listen, listen to the messenger of God, that He places in our path. While all seems lost, a foregone conclusion, here comes a new twist to an unexpected turn in life! Life. God is Life, there is one who has the power to give life, a life that has meaning. Life. God is the one who wakes his son on Easter morning, proving that death will never be stronger.

He did not give up, he does not try to flee. He finds an excuse to let the servants at the foot of the mountain ( Gen. 22.4-5).
In this period of Lent, leading us inexorably to Friday, there's also this death march. Like Abraham, Jesus the only Son of God, walking out to meet death, a shameful death, for, like Isaac, he did nothing to deserve such a fate. Unlike the text of Genesis, there will be no savior angel to come and stop the agony of Christ ... In any case, not before Easter morning.
God, our God is a God of life! It is he who, by his word, our everyday lives and joined us, also and especially in the darkest moments of our existence. God put Abraham to the test not so much to play with his faith, but to prove that He, the Lord his God was with him and that he had the power to fulfill his promises, that the promised seed would not annihilated in the first generation. But, putting all his trust in this God, Abraham had a choice of life, source of life.
In conclusion, ligation of Isaac, because there was no human sacrifice, shows us how God is tied to the lives of his children, how it provides for our failings, to Our empty. As Abraham heard the voice of the angel and kept his arm raised, we too have to listen, listen to the messenger of God, that He places in our path. While all seems lost, a foregone conclusion, here comes a new twist to an unexpected turn in life! Life. God is Life, there is one who has the power to give life, a life that has meaning. Life. God is the one who wakes his son on Easter morning, proving that death will never be stronger.

Some pictures of the family who settled Kalo now on Futuna Island from this February 2009.
Christophe and Marie-Jeanne will work with the Missionary WATU Albert, head of the field of Wallis and Futuna. This will be their first mission experience after working in New Caledonia (Grande Terre and Mare Island).
Please pray for their installation and adjustment, not only for our brother and sister but also for their children (Lindsay, Denise, Osésime and Olivier). It's not always easy to adapt to context and culture different from theirs. That the Lord helps . One who not only calls out of darkness into His marvelous light, also calls for bringing the Gospel to every creature. Also pray for the Church of Futuna so that this new direction and strengthen them strengthens and encourages them to all respects.
That God provides the needs of His work in the various mission fields. May He support the missionary families for their commitment to proclaim the name which is above every name, and that souls are won in large numbers to the cause of Our Lord who is blessed forever!
Thank you all for your support and contribution to the CMA. May the Lord bless you in return according to His grace and His riches in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior!
