Exodus 20:12 Among the Ten Commandments that the Lord addresses Moses, there's this: "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee ". All of these precepts is the only one who explicitly announces a reason. Thus, respect, honor worn by each of us to extend our parents today.
In our time, and the media often make them one, families experience many problems : Divorces, more or less successful reorganization, generational conflict, misunderstanding and sometimes drama. Obviously, most families run happy days: parents and children live in harmony. But not interested in that the tabloids!
Parents have so much to give, to share. They lived in happy and unhappy events and gained "philosophy of life" that we can be profitable. We often hear it was so much better their time, but I think that life was not necessarily more Easy, by far! Family allowances did not exist, large families were legion and only the eldest of the siblings could hope for or to study or take the field! Our parents lived through something, and something else that can enrich us. Honoring parents is to accept them as they are, with their qualities and defects, which often can be ours: the genetic mysteries of these! But this is not always obvious!
Honoring God is also to thank Him for giving us life through our parents. Before the Lord, a family is a blessing, and even if she lives in the love of God and neighbor. Recognizing all the respect we pay to our parents, we proclaim our commitment not only to our parents, but also and above all, to God our Father, our Mother, the Lord is the Wholly Other, is both the feminine the male.
A life of harmony and peace within our family, this is the project that the Lord has for each of us. Our parents are healthy or sick, older or younger, we are called to surround them, to love and honor them. Thus, Life, la vraie, prendra tout son sens, car nous serons habités, dans nos relations, par l’Amour du Très-Haut. Dieu a aimé le monde et son Fils au-delà de toute mesure, jusqu’à la Croix. Il a accepté que Jésus, son Fils unique, meurt au rang des malfaiteurs, mais Il a voulu ouvrir un chemin de Lumière, en le ressuscitant au matin de Pâques.
Que l’Amour du Père, du Fils et de l’Esprit nous conduise à honorer nos parents.
