Luke 24.13-33 companion means: that which we share the bread. In common parlance, it is also the sense of: one who shares life. In both approaches, although we recognize Jesus Christ. First, we share his bread, symbol of his body, a sign of the new covenant, and it is also the one who shares our life.
Share. That is the watchword. Distribute widely the love of Christ for all of us; reflect this love in our relationships with others beyond our differences, these are the challenges that are ours today. Moving Out of reassuring certainties to dare take the risk of being undermined, questioned, challenged, this is what God asks us every day.
In our daily lives, we are never really alone, though we may feel abandoned. There is always the companion Jesus walks with us, sharing our doubts, our fears but also our joys. Like the two disciples who were traveling to Emmaus, we are in our lives, accompanied by the Risen Lord, but we often do not recognize it. It is embodied in the person who will be there at the right time for us to listen, pay attention to us, to console us.
The resurrection of Jesus we are reminded every year at Easter, but today we're not tempted to regard this episode as a myth or legend? By dint of hearing, have we not lost the wonder of the early believers? Do we still have that fire burning in us? Do we have the audacity to tell the world that, yes, Jesus really was resurrected?
And so this morning, like many other mornings, we became aware that a companion is there with us, he walks with us and instructs us without our knowledge? Like the disciples let Jesus open our eyes to his presence in our lives. Try to see and recognize in our dealings and in our meetings.
Today, like yesterday and tomorrow, we walk with the Risen One who opens our eyes and heart to a world in which we are dedicated to announce: he is risen, yes, it really is Risen! Do not keep silent the good news!
